ASEAN countries pledge to boost economic cooperation in Laos

VIENTIANE, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) — Representatives from the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have gathered in Laos to discuss greater collaboration for economic integration, digital transformation, and a sustainable future.
The representatives gathered in the Lao capital Vientiane for the 46th meeting of the High-Level Task Force on ASEAN Economic Integration, according to a report issued by the Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce on Thursday.
The participants discussed and exchanged opinions to formulate recommendations for policies to drive ASEAN economic integration, and to prepare for the 56th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting, which Laos will host in mid-September.
The meeting was briefed on progress in implementing the ASEAN Priority Economic Deliverables under Laos’ ASEAN chairmanship in 2024.
The meeting was also briefed on the progress in implementing the initiative for good regulations related to the electric vehicle and battery industries and for guiding this issue.
In addition, the meeting discussed other issues related to the ASEAN economy, such as the blue economy, integration, and promotion of people-to-people ties, trade and investments in the region. ■
